Longest Train is an album designed for fans who became interested in
Charlie Louvin and
the Louvin Brothers through the music of
Gram Parsons and
the Byrds. The album features latter-day recordings of signature
Louvin songs like "The Christian Life" and "In the Pines," all songs that country-rockers and rockers have covered. Consequently, it's not a bad way to learn about
the Louvins, but it really isn't as compelling as the original
Louvin Brothers recordings and those do provide a better introduction than
Longest Train.
