Another corker from the best singles band of the 1990s, "The Question Is How Fast" captures
Superchunk at their most anthemic. In some respects their most traditional rock & roll song to date, it swaps the band's trademark sugar-rush frenzy for a slower, more muscular guitar riff and stadium-strength drumming, proving the increasing scope and flexibility of their basic approach. Among the two B-sides, the original "Forged It" is pure, uncut adrenaline -- much more interesting is their cover of
the Magnetic Fields' cult classic "100,000 Fireflies," which retains the mordant beauty of the original while boasting the energy of
Superchunk's best work. ~ Jason Ankeny
