On March 26, 2020, English rapper Bugzy Malone was the victim of a serious road accident in Bury, near Manchester. After crashing into a car at 110 km/h while driving a quad without a helmet, he spent several weeks in hospital in serious condition. A year later, Bugzy Malone got up and started making music again. The Resurrection is marked deeply by the event, from its title through its themes and its aesthetic. Musically, he favours productions built on piano arpeggios, major addresses on God, on how he recovered, and on what made him stronger, as in the tracks Don’t Cry and M.E.N. II. While he hasn’t completely recovered the instinctive ardour that made him successful on his debut 2018 album, B. Inspired, Bugzy shows an unwavering determination between side-trips to lighter themes, with ego trips like the track Notorious. © Brice Miclet/Qobuz
