Chicago's
the Spaniels, led by the lead vocals of James "Pookie" Hudson, helped form a template for doo wop vocal groups with their first two hits, 1953's "Baby, It's You" and 1954's "Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight," both of which continue to hold up as stellar recordings in the 21st century. It didn't really get better than that for the group, though, and this 14-track collection, which includes versions of both of those hits, has most of their key sides but not much more. ~ Steve Leggett
