Thyme unveiled its moody, heavily electronic sound on this self-titled debut EP, which combines alternative pop with R&B and funk as well as jazz. Comprised of guitarist/keyboardist Kurt Oldman and vocalist Sandra L. Rostirolla,
Thyme doesn't try to win you over with aggression or intensity. Hauntingly melodic numbers like "Under Your Wing," "Hey Little Girl" and "Lock Me in a Box" favor subtlety, and the cool-toned, waifish Rostirolla goes for restraint throughout the EP. But for Rostirolla, cool doesn't mean cold. She may not beat listeners over the head with emotion, but she's far from aloof -- in fact, she's an expressive singer who lets her vulnerability come through. Generally appealing, this EP lets you know that
Thyme has potential.
