The most impressive aspect to this set is the interplay between the three musicians. Although guitarist
Justin Morell contributed all of the originals, he, keyboardist Leonard Thompson, and bassist
Todd Sickafoose function as equals during the performances. So close is their communication that at times it is difficult to know which ensembles are arranged and which are jammed. None of
Morell's moody originals have memorable melodies, but they do set a fresh atmosphere in which the musicians are free to be creative, with "Tremors" being the most exciting piece. This atmospheric set (which is at times a little reminiscent of
Bill Frisell's projects although without the eccentricities) holds one's interest throughout. ~ Scott Yanow
