Various Waves is a surprising debut from a multitalented guitarist who also dabbles in synthesizer colorings, molding a sound in which the whole exceeds the sum of its parts. The first soothing notes of
Adams's analog guitar begin the journey on "Fayethe." With the exception of "Father's Reminiscence" (with added trumpet and drums) and the closing "Goodnight" with the vocal of a young girl, Rachel McCarty and her "G-rated" ending, all instruments are played by
Paul, including various percussion, dulcimer, Australian PVC didjeridu and some nice vocal touches that enhance rather than detract from the overall flow. The wide range of the compositions make for broad appeal, with atmospheric portions giving way to rhythmic strumming and assorted off-the-wall themes.
Paul Adams has found his own niche with
Various Waves, which a wide range of listeners should find to their liking. ~ Backroads Music/Heartbeats
