Love You Moon is the one-man band of singer/songwriter Matthew Embree, a less impressive point than is sometimes the case in an age when a single person is capable of overdubbing enough to come off like an orchestra. Not Embree, who for the most part just strums an acoustic guitar furiously and howls his way through seemingly improvised lyrics. "A little passion, a little rage," he sings in "H-Bombs and Strip-Malls," a rocker that adds electric guitar, and that's a good summary of the approach here, as Embree, who sometimes recalls an acoustic version of
Jack White in
the White Stripes, is alternately impassioned and outraged, throatily shouting stream-of-consciousness words full of references to knives, guns, and blood, when they aren't using erotic imagery. It's not particularly coherent, but he's certainly worked up about something. ~ William Ruhlmann
