We owe it to
the Hawklords for supplying us with one of the more convoluted chapters of space rock history. An odd splintering/spinoff of the legendary
Hawkwind, the similarly named band floundered around confusingly for a year or two in the late '70s before dissolving into solo projects or rejoining
Hawkwind to go on into future decades. Then,
We Are One somehow arrived 34 years later, embracing the same proto-punk space rock synth freakouts of their earliest days. Revved-up biker rock with touches of spacy production come in the form of tracks like "Mothership" and "Time Split Vision," while longer, mellower tracks like "Event Horizon" explore the more introspective but equally interstellar side of the group. ~ Fred Thomas
