When "Make Me a Song" appeared in April 2004, it was as the lead single to
Kiley Dean's full-length debut for
Timbaland's Beat Club imprint. However, slated for the following summer, Simple Girl never showed up. "Who Will I Run To"/"Kiss Me Like That" was released in October 2004, and though the material showed promise, it was unclear just what was up with
Kiley Dean's budding career. Musically "Run" was a pretty typical contemporary R&B ballad, not particularly powerful but proof enough of her vocal ability. And "Kiss Me" was a little better with its shuffling beat and cut-up acoustic guitar samples. But with no information about Simple Girl's release and "Kiss Me Like That"'s principal rhythms surfacing in the lead single to
Bubba Sparxxx's higher-profile
Deliverance,
Kiley Dean's future with Beat Club was anyone's guess. ~ Johnny Loftus
