Although this is technically a blues CD, the musicians in guitarist-singer
Robi Zonca's band were clearly coming to the blues from the rock/pop side rather than from jazz or vintage blues. The music, mostly originals by the leader other than
the Beatles' "One After 909," is primarily good-time blues and pop. The lyrics are never too deep or dark, but the musicians clearly had a good time performing this material. The rhythm section and
Zonca in particular are mostly in the forefront with Roby Perego's tenor always being a welcome addition. ~ Scott Yanow
