This collectors LP has some of trumpeter
Ziggy Elman's best jazz recordings with his short-lived big band of 1947-52. The personnel is not given (other than the band's occasional vocalist
Virginia Maxey) but
Elman is generally the main star anyway. "Boppin' with Zig" (a successor to "Zaggin' with Zig" and "Samba with Zig") is quite interesting as
Elman tries to adapt to a boppish arrangement worthy of
Dizzy Gillespie's big band. Otherwise the music (which includes "I Found a New Baby," "Birth of the Blues," "Hup-Je-De-Bee" and "I'll Get By") is solid swing. Worth searching for by big-band fans.
