Aaron Davis has been an intense presence on the eastern Canadian music scene since at least 1990, his talents including arranging and composing as well as playing keyboards. One of his earlier recordings seems to be a 1990 collection of Christmas music done with the erstwhile
Canadian Brass, but
Davis is better known outside the classical scene as a collaborator with singer/songwriters such as
Holly Cole and Marie Lynn Hammond, the latter formerly with the popular '70s folk group Stringband.
Bassist
David Piltch is a regular playing partner, completing the rhythm section of
the Holly Cole Trio as well as their own unit appropriately dubbed Piltch & Davis. The Canadian
Manteca band, named after a warhorse composition from the Latin jazz repertoire, brought
Davis into its aggregation of intense musicianship after the group had been around nearly a decade. In this context
Davis also whacks on percussion. As a songwriting partner his credits include
Cole tracks such as "Neon Blue" and the inquisitive "What About Me?" ~ Eugene Chadbourne
