Akuvi

Artist, Contributor

Norwegian-Ghanaian Akuvi is a neo-soul and afro-fusion vocalist, songwriter and entertainer. Her spot in the finals of Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2020 was for many their first meeting with the Oslo-based artist, as she delivered an explosive performance with her original hit song «Som du er», which reached 200 000 streams within the first month of its release. Akuvi sings soulfully but with a raspy edge. Her sound brings together West-African and Northern European expression, while also drawing on contemporary rnb and hip hop. She passionately delivers her lyrics in captivating ways, using elements from soul, Afro-pop and reggae.
When Akuvi was 21 years old she moved to Cape Town, South Africa to pursue her studies of peace, conflict and religion. It was in the vibrant city of Cape Town that she started experimenting with her sound through a number of collaborations, jam sessions and listening sessions. Her exploration led to the birth of Akuvi, the artist, who turns diary pages into soulful music, heavily influenced by African rhythms and Caribbean flow. She relocated to Oslo in February 2019, and has within the first year of her return released an album, several singles and music videos, and participated in festivals and TV shows. Akuvi is releasing an album in the 2021.
