Taking prompts from 90’s post-grunge dirge heroes and modern emo revivalists, Altona’s sensible-yet-gutsy approach to songwriting frames, within sturdy arrangements, a zeal for clarity amid devastation. The four-piece prudently fashions music for those blindsided by the dark but fighting to stay in the light. In July 2016, Altona began what should’ve been a brief hiatus. Following countless member changes and dwindling creative momentum, a general sense of disillusionment arose among remaining members. To top it off, an invitation to play Canadian Music Week didn’t materialize when the band were in a serious car accident en route to the festival. So, despite a successful 2015 EP release and Western Canadian touring, the group sank beneath the radar. Now, four years later, Altona is categorically firing on all cylinders once more. With a Northwest tour taking place in March and a local show supporting the legendary Mudhoney on December 10th, the Vancouver indie/emo rockers are moving ever-forward with the recent past, vigorous and real, still in their eyeline. Their debut full-length, “I Hope I Got All The Good Stories Out Of Them” is out now.
