Anderson/Stolt is a collaborative recording project between former
Yes vocalist/songwriter
Jon Anderson and
Flower Kings/Transatlantic guitarist/composer
Roine Stolt. Inside Out Music label boss Thomas Waber instigated the project during 2014's Progressive Nation at Sea Cruise, where both
Stolt's Transatlantic and
Anderson's group were performing. Having long been a bug in the singer's ear about recording a new album of "
Yes music," it was a coup that he got the pair to converse. They continued talking and sending ideas back and forth, and formally booked studio time.
Stolt hired a band that featured musicians from his immediate circle, including his brother Michael and Jonas Reingold on basses, keyboardist
Lalle Larsson, drummer Felix Lehrmann, and a five-voice chorus that included multi-instrumentalist Daniel Gildenlöw.
Anderson selected
Tom Brislin, who had appeared on the
Symphonic Music of Yes tour of 2000-2001. Recording sessions took place over a year and a half, with the two primary artists co-producing.
Invention of Knowledge, comprising three suites and a long stand-alone track, melded the approach of 1970s-vintage
Yes with third-wave prog fusion and modern recording tools and production techniques. The album was released in June of 2016 to nearly universal critical acclaim. ~ Thom Jurek
