Artist, Contributor

A pop singer and songwriter whose music is both bold and playful (and often deals with the ups and downs of relationships), Anna Mae found success licensing songs for onscreen placements in the latter half of the 2010s before releasing her debut EP, If I'm Being Honest, in 2020. She followed it with non-EP singles including 2022's "Coming of Age."
Anna Mae was born Anna Mae Hoffbeck in Red Wing, Minnesota. She picked up her passion for music from her family. Her mother was an amateur vocalist who led the choir at church, and was also a big Joni Mitchell fan. Her father's tastes ran to hard rock, Bruce Springsteen, and the Beatles, while her siblings favored Coldplay and Death Cab for Cutie. Inspired by a diverse range of artists, including Relient K, Switchfoot, Lissie, and Needtobreathe, by the time Anna Mae became a teenager she'd decided she wanted a career in music. She began traveling to Nashville for songwriting sessions when she was in high school, and after she graduated, she relocated to Music City, where she enrolled at Belmont University, majoring in music business. In 2014, Anna Mae graduated, and in January 2016 she released her debut single, "Honey, I Need You."
Several more digital singles followed, including "Over My Heels," "Just Watch," and "Savages," and as her reputation as a songwriter grew, Anna Mae's songs earned placements on TV and in movies. She next landed a publishing deal with Prescription Songs, a company founded by successful writer and producer Dr. Luke. While making her mark as a tunesmith, Anna Mae continued to record and release material, including the track "Single-Minded" in February 2018 and the holiday ballad "All Alone on Christmas" in late 2019. She delivered her first EP, the self-released If I'm Being Honest, in March 2020.
Anna Mae's singles output resumed with tracks like an October 2020 cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams," 2021's "Roaring 20s," and the atmospheric ballad "Coming of Age" in 2022. ~ Mark Deming
