A blues guitarist specializing in all manner of classic sounds -- everything from jazzy soul to jumping juke-joint grooves --
Anthony Paule has released a handful of solo records, but is just as well known for his supporting work for
Boz Scaggs and
Charlie Musselwhite, along with his collaborations with singers
Frank Bey and
Wee Willie Walker. Based in the Bay Area,
Paule released his debut album,
Big Guitar, in 1995. He followed it in 2001 with
Hiding in Plain Sight. In 2013 he teamed up with
Frank Bey for the live album
You Don't Know Nothing, which they followed that same year with the studio session Soul for Your Blues. In 2015 they released
Not Goin' Away, a collection that largely relied on originals.
Paule formed
the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra as his backing band for
Wee Willie Walker in 2017. The group released
After a While that year. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
