Arthur Maia

Arthur Maia began to play the drums when he was still a child. At 15, he took up the electric bass. After becoming a professional in the '80s, he accompanied artists like Jorge Ben Jor, Gal Costa, Ivan Lins, and Gilberto Gil. Recorded with Ney Matogrosso (Olhos de Farol), Lulu Santos, the Spanish singer Rosana Arbelo, Gilberto Gil, and Caetano Veloso (Tropicália 2). In the instrumental music field, he worked with the Banda Black Rio and is a member of the group Cama de Gato, with which has recorded several CDs. In 1986, he recorded an album dedicated to Tom Jobim and Heitor Villa-Lobos with Gilson Peranzzetta. His first solo album, Maia (1990), won the Sharp prize of 1991.
