An innovative, stylistically varied, Christian rap outfit and production team,
Beautiful Eulogy make experimental hip-hop that combines their love of worship music, folk, and electronica. Formed in Portland, Oregon in 2011,
Beautiful Eulogy features rapper
Bryan Winchester (aka
Braille), rapper Thomas Terry (aka Odd Thomas), and producer Courtland Urbano. Initially, the trio came together to record
Braille's seventh album
Native Lungs. Going into the recording process, Humble Beast record label-owners Odd Thomas and Urbano were planning on forming a production duo. However, after the album was finished,
Braille also jumped on board and the decision was made to move forward as a three-member team.
Following their contribution to the Rapzilla charity compilation
King Kulture and a collaboration with
Lecrae on his mixtape
Church Clothes,
Beautiful Eulogy made their full-length debut with 2012's
Satellite Kite. The album showcased their eclectic musical taste, and theologically inspired lyrics. It peaked in the Top 50 of the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart.
A year later, they returned with their sophomore studio effort,
Instruments of Mercy, featuring the single "Vital Lens." The album found the group expanding upon the eclecticism of their debut, and forgoing the use of digital effects in favor of real instrumentation and analog sounds. Well-received, the album charted at number six on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart. In 2017, they released their third full-length,
Worthy, which featured contributions from
Aaron Strumpel,
Citizens, Art Azurdia, and others. ~ Matt Collar
