Big Head Blues Club is essentially
Big Head Todd & the Monsters augmented with
Cedric Burnside (grandson of blues great
R.L. Burnside), guitarist
Lightnin’ Malcolm, and singer
Ruthie Foster, plus a rotating cast of blues legends who have included
B.B. King,
David Honeyboy Edwards,
Hubert Sumlin, and
Charlie Musselwhite. As a conglomerate,
Big Head Blues Club grew out of the Blues at the Crossroads tour honoring country bluesman
Robert Johnson's 100th birthday, and the assembled and expanded group went into the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis with producer
Chris Goldsmith to record an album of songs associated with
Johnson, who only ever recorded 29 songs, all during the years 1936 and 1937. The result, 100 Years of Robert Johnson, appeared in 2011 from Ryko/Big Records. ~ Steve Leggett
