Blond:ish is the duo of
Anstascia D'Elene Corniere and
Vivie-Ann Bakos, two DJs and producers originally from Montreal, whose smooth, sunny, often vocal-driven tech-house tracks can be introspective, sentimental, and slightly trippy. The pair met at the 2007 Winter Music Conference in Miami; soon after, they established a DJ night called
Blond:ish at Montreal's Cherry Nightclub, and began producing music under the name in 2008. Their career took off after they relocated to London in 2010; by 2012 they had released EPs on Kompakt and
Get Physical Music, in addition to remixes for
Pete Tong and
Tomas Barfod. The year 2013 saw the release of further EPs for both labels, as well as remixes for
Kate Simko and
Maya Jane Coles. In 2014
Blond:ish mixed the second disc of Flying Ibiza, Vol. 1, the first of which was mixed by
Audiofly. They also remixed
Depeche Mode's "Should Be Higher" that year. The duo's debut full-length,
Welcome to the Present, appeared on Kompakt in 2015; instead of being an album strictly composed of dancefloor cuts, it was a surprising detour into moody downtempo excursions, with several tracks echoing
the Orb's most psychedelic moments. ~ Paul Simpson
