Pianist Bob Degan has recorded for the Calig, Enja and Trio labels in the late '60s,'70s and early '80s. His sessions have been mostly trios, though he's also done one duo and one quartet release. He attended Berklee in the early '60s and played at Boston clubs. Degan worked in Europe periodically in the mid-'60s, playing with Art Farmer, Dexter Gordon, Carmell Jones and Albert Mangesldorff while recording there as a leader in 1968. Degan led a trio with Paul Motian, toured with Gary Peacock and Buddy DeFranco in the late '60s and early '70s, then settled in Germany in 1974. Degan and Heinz Sauer have played and recorded together frequently in the '70s and '80s, co-leading a quartet in the early '80s and being sidemen with Makaya Ntshoko, the Frankfurter Jazz Ensemble, Voices and Adelhard Roidinger in the mid-'70s and early '80s. Degan led trios, and recorded in the '70s and '80s with Joki Freund, Leszek Zadlo, Gunther Lenz and Uli Beckerhoff. ~ Ron Wynn
