Northern California rapper
BOE Sosa
was still a teenager when he began releasing viral tracks of his street rhymes, which were often violent and callous beyond his years. In mid-2018, after spending time in jail for his alleged involvement in an armed robbery,
BOE
completed his debut mixtape, Mirland, which featured many of his already well-known singles.
BOE Sosa
(BOE signifying "Brothers Over Everything") grew up in the Oak Park neighborhood of Sacramento. He honed his talent for lyrics and delivery early on, beginning to rap early in his teens and scoring some of his first hits with tracks like "Off the Porch" and "Keep It Wit Me" in 2017 when he was just 16 years old. His raw lyrics and West Coast-style beats made a big impression, and videos of his songs were viewed millions of times. In May 2018,
Sosa
was arrested as a suspect in an armed robbery that happened in a gas station in his neighborhood. Part of a complex drug deal gone wrong, victims of the robbery went to police saying
Sosa
drew a gun on them and stole three pounds of marijuana, claiming they had identified him as the gunman by watching his viral videos.
Sosa
did jail time, but the case was ultimately dismissed and all charges were dropped. Almost immediately upon his release in June 2018,
Sosa
dropped a new single, "First Day Out," chronicling the story of his arrest. He compiled several of his songs into debut mixtape Mirland in the fall of 2018, and before the year was over he returned with second mixtape 16. ~ Fred Thomas
