Bridge61 was formed in Chicago in 2004 by reed player Ken Vandermark, bassist Nate McBride, drummer Tim Daisy, and clarinetist
Jason Stein. Vandermark, McBride, and Daisy had all worked together in various ensembles before, with Vandermark and Daisy dating their collaboration back to 2001 and the groups
Vandermark 5, Crisis Ensemble, and
Sound in Action Trio.
Bridge61's debut album,
