Comprising brothers Gareth Hunt and Andrew Hunt on drums and vocals, respectively, alongside guitarist Jonny Williams and bassist
Darren King,
Buffalo Summer were formed in Swansea, south Wales, in 2010. They began life jamming around on blues standards before eventually starting to write their own material. Initially self-released before later being picked up by Cargo Records, their debut album arrived a year later. Simply titled Buffalo Summer, the record garnered a good deal of attention and critical acclaim, drawing comparisons with old-school rock heavyweight such as
Led Zeppelin,
Deep Purple, and
Lynyrd Skynyrd. The album's popularity resulted in the band supporting big name acts such as
Ugly Kid Joe,
Duff McKagan, and
Skid Row, as well as playing major festivals such as Download. Their follow-up,
Second Sun, was released in 2016 and featured the production talents of
Barrett Martin, known for his work with
Screaming Trees and
Queens of the Stone Age. ~ Simon Spreyer
