Formed in 2002 by Karen Roberts (vocals) and Patrick Fitzgerald (bass/vocals), globetrotting Southern California-based ska-punk outfit
Chase Long Beach grew into an octet by the time its debut EP (Attack of the Fuzzy Things) was released in 2004. Taking a cue from third wave ska revival acts like the
Mighty Mighty Bosstones,
Reel Big Fish, and
Less Than Jake,
Chase Long Beach updated the traditional, high-energy ska template by interrupting the notoriously sunny, major-key happy genre with the occasional dark cloud. The band released another EP, Chase Long Beach Hosts a Molotov Cocktail Party in 2006, followed by their full-length debut, Lebec in 2007, and 2009 sophomore effort
Gravity Is What You Make It, both of which were produced by
Reel Big Fish frontman,
Aaron Barrett. ~ James Christopher Monger
