When Chigger began in 1997, the Downey, California four-piece wanted to take a poppier approach to their inspirations of melancholy dream pop. Added to the female fronted vocals and glockenspiel leads, Chigger's honest approach to gentle indie was further characterized through a playful lyrical presence. Satellite Records eventually documented Chigger's style on the 1999 debut EP entitled
