Cimarrón is a Colombian music band that performs joropo music from the Plains of the Orinoco River with a global and contemporary sound. Their powerful scenic force achieves a unique blend of its Andalusian, Indigenous American and African roots, with a soulful ethnic singing, amazing foot-stomping dance and fierce instrumental virtuosity of strings and percussions. Their music includes four-stringed cuatro, harp, maracas, and also Peruvian-flamenco cajón, Brazilian surdo, Afro-Colombian tambora, a stomp dance as a percussion component and tribal indigenous whistles never seen before out of Latin America. Cimarrón is the one and only Grammy-nominated Colombian traditional music band for Best Traditional World Music Album. They also won 2012 Independent Music Awards for Best Latin Album and were nominated for 2014 Lunas del Auditorio de Mexico Awards in the category Best Traditional Music Show. Their new instrumental and improvisatory piece “Zumbajam” earned Best Instrumental Song category in 2019 Independent Music Awards.
