Daykoda

Daykoda

Italian artist Andrea Gamba

DayKoda’s musical background is rooted in traditional education, having studied for several years at the Milan conservatory and dug through his parents records collection since the young age. However he never really fit in the mainstream scene due to his eccentric approach to music making focused on experimenting with electronic production and its contaminations with abstract hip-hop and jazz. Throughout the years he developed a fine taste for the sound of innovative labels such as Brainfeeder and Ninja Tune, which became a focal point of his work and prompt him to master his style. He is able to craft off-kilter hip-hop music coloured by warm beats construction and twinkling drums moving through hazy downtempo and nu-jazz reminiscences inspired by Teebs, Flying Lotus, Shigeto and the new UK-Jazz scene. His works has received support by national and international realities such as BBC Radio, Skinny Pelembe, KCRW, Nubya Garcia, Laurent Garnier, Tru Thoughts, Okayplayer, including that one of the Italian webzine Soundwall which referred to him as "the Italian Flying Lotus”. With the heavy approach to the jazz world, further consolidated in 2019 with the first full-lenght album All of Me he moved beyond the world of beat making and explored the interconnection between jazz and electronic music, rendering solid his will to break the canonical standards of "genre".
