Merging the most propulsive and energetic sides of two electronic producers, EDM super-duo
Dog Blood is the side project of American dubstep icon
Skrillex and German house DJ
Boys Noize. The pair joined forces in 2012 on their debut split single "Next Order" b/w "Middle Finger," following with a pair of EPs before focusing on their respective solo careers. In 2019, they reunited with "Turn Off the Lights."
Sonny Moore (
Skrillex) and
Alex Ridha (
Boys Noize) started the project in 2012. Taking inspiration from
Aphex Twin, they combined the heaviest aspects of their solo work, layering abrasive effects over rave-friendly beats. Their first release was 2012's "Next Order"/"Middle Finger" single; they soon followed with the
Middle Finger, Pt. 2 EP, which included three new tracks. A remix of the latter EP landed in 2014. Although the pair would only make rare appearances at electronic festivals over the following years, they kept busy with their own material. While
Ridha issued the albums Mayday and
Strictly Raw, Vol.1 and Vol. 2,
Moore joined
Diplo for 2015's Grammy-winning
Jack U project, also collaborating on singles with other artists such as
Vic Mensa,
Rick Ross, "Bangarang"'s Sirah, and
What So Not. They reunited in 2019 for a handful of festival sets, issuing the single "Turn Off the Lights" that March. ~ Neil Z. Yeung
