Arising from the British anarcho-punk and hardcore scene of the early 1980s, Doom became a progenitor of the crust punk sound, characterized by thrash guitars, speed drumming, and barked vocals, often including, and certainly in Doom’s case, staunchly political lyrics. Originally called the Subverters, the band changed their name, and really began to develop their sound when drummer Mick Harris of Napalm Death joined in 1987. Doom released a series of seven-inch singles, split LPs, and full-lengthS, and went through several lineup changes over their 20-plus-year career. They released their final album in 2001.
