Edmond Audran

Edmond Audran

Edmond Audran was not only a composer of note but a tenor in the comic opera as well as an organist. His works include a number of "little" operas and sacred music for the church. (A funeral march was composed for Meyerbeer.) Audran wrote the touted "La cigale et la fourmi" which brought him international acclaim but his music had no innovative qualities. Audran employed diverse effectvie beats and his melodies were popular. © Keith Johnson /TiVo
