Eskimeaux

US Lo Fi Pop

The recording project of talented songwriter and producer Gabrielle Smith, Eskimeaux first began as an outlet for Smith’s experimental pop tendencies and has since quickly evolved into effective and palatable exhibition of her distinct artistic expression. Making her solo debut with 2013’s self-released Igluenza, Smith would go on to earn widespread critical acclaim with O.K. in 2015. Released by way of Double Double Whammy records, Pitchfork called the lauded follow-up “the most fitting pallette for Smith's work,” complimenting its meticulous compositions and expressive meditations on love, loss and loneliness. For her excellent 2016 EP, Year of the Rabbit, Smith worked with Epoch Collective members/collaborators Emily Sprague and Felix Walworth, recording the entirety of the effort as if it were live. A departure from her more highly produced past, Year of the Rabbit is a rewarding record characterized by a far more natural sound.
