Boston, MA, speed metal trio
Executioner was formed in 1984 by vocalist and guitarist Marc Johnson, bassist Ari Vianio, and drummer Dan Scannell. Their debut album, In the Name of Metal, was released by the New Renaissance label in 1986, and was followed by a U.S. tour also featuring underground favorites
Voivod,
Kreator,
St. Vitus, and
Dream Death. This tour also served to introduce new bassist
Seth Putnam, who would go on to perform on
Executioner's 1987 sophomore effort, Break the Silence, but subsequently left to found
Anal Cunt. As for
Executioner, they toiled on for a little while longer before breaking up, and the batch of new demos recorded with third bass player Tommy Flynn were eventually included in 2000's The Storm After the Calm odds-and-ends collection. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
