Inspired by hazy, jangly power pop acts such as
Cleaners from Venus,
Emitt Rhodes, and
Shoes, Brooklyn's
EZTV began as the project of vocalist/guitarist/audio engineer Ezra Tenenbaum. To flesh out demos he'd crafted on his eight-track recorder, Tenenbaum recruited bassist Shane O'Connell and former
Widowspeak drummer Michael Stasiak. The trio recorded its debut album with
Woods' Jarvis Taveniere as producer, with the April 2015 release of the 7" Dust in the Sky heralding the arrival of Calling Out that July. For 2016's more polished
High in Place,
EZTV opted to record and produce the album themselves, and invited guests including
Jenny Lewis,
Chris Cohen,
Quilt's
John Andrews, and
Real Estate's
Martin Courtney and Matt Kallman. ~ Heather Phares
