Fabien Gabel

A frequent guest conductor with major orchestras around the world, Fabien Gabel is the music director of the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec and the Orchestre Français des jeunes. Born in Paris to a musical family, Gabel was 6 when he took up the trumpet, and he attended the Conservatoire de Paris, where he won first prize in trumpet in 1996. He also studied at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe, before working professionally with orchestras in Paris. Gabel won the Donatella Flick Competition in 2004, and was appointed assistant conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra from 2004 to 2006. He appeared as a guest conductor at the Aspen Festival in 2009. Gabel also worked as an assistant to David Zinman, Bernard Haitink, and Colin Davis. Gabel has conducted many of the leading orchestras in Europe and the United States, and collaborated with Emanuel Ax, Gidon Kremer, Christian Tetzlaff, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Marc-André Hamelin, Gautier Capuçon, Simone Lamsma, Bertrand Chamayou, Jennifer Larmore, Natalie Dessay, and Marie-Nicole Lemieux, among many others.
