Drew Lustman's releases as
FaltyDL encompass IDM, drum'n'bass, hardcore techno, house, garage, and dubstep without playing any one of them straight up. Full of abstractions and abrupt changes, the majority of his output was nonetheless intended for active dancefloors. The New York-based producer debuted
FaltyDL in 2007 but gained serious traction in 2009 with a pair of singles on Ramp, as well as an EP and an album -- titled
Love Is a Liability -- for
Planet Mu. More short-form releases on Rush Hour,
Planet Mu, Ramp, and Swamp81 were issued across 2010 and 2011.
You Stand Uncertain, a second album, was also released on
Planet Mu. In 2013, he moved to the Ninja Tune label for the album
Hardcourage, which featured guest vocals from
Friendly Fires singer Ed Macfarlane. In early 2014, he announced details of his fourth studio album, called
In the Wild. This collaboration with visual artist Chris Shen was described by
Lustman as a collection of sounds and spatial effects that encapsulated the album title. He released the single "Some Jazz Shit" in July 2014, a month before the LP.
Lustman spent the next two years crafting his 2016 album,
Heaven Is for Quitters. The following year, he returned with the companion piece Heaven Is for Quitters Remixes, Vol. 1. ~ Andy Kellman
