Based out of Brooklyn and Philadelphia, indie rock band
Field Mouse is led by main songwriter
Rachel Browne. The group underwent a gradual shift from early shoegaze tendencies and the dream pop of their 2014 debut,
Hold Still Life, toward a more articulate blend of fuzz and jangle on subsequent albums, including 2019's Meaning.
Formed by singer/guitarist
Browne and multi-instrumentalist/producer
Andrew Futral (the Age of Rockets) circa 2010,
Field Mouse released a handful of fuzz-washed singles, including a cover of
Deerhunter's "Helicopter," before adding member Saysha Heinzman on bass. Their first album,
Hold Still Life, arrived on
Top Shelf Records in 2014. After adding keyboardist Zoë Browne and drummer Tim McCoy to the official lineup,
Episodic followed in 2016. Following a brief hiatus,
Browne and
Futral collaborated with
Kyle Gilbride (
Swearin') on producing their third full-length. Meaning saw release by
Top Shelf in 2019. ~ Marcy Donelson
