Cumbia saxophonist Fito Olivares and his band La Pura Sabrosura -- including his brothers Javier on vocals and Jaime on keyboards -- were born and raised in Ciudad Camargo, Tamaulipas; relocating to Houston, Texas in 1977, they formed the group three years later and eventually signed with the Gil Records label. Olivares enjoyed his commercial breakthrough in 1988 with the hits "La Gallina" and "Juana la Cubana; " a year later the group returned with the smash "La Negra Catalina," followed in 1990 by "Aguita de Melon." During the mid-1990s Olivares notched a series of Top 40 hits on Billboard's Latin chart, among them "La Ranita," "Cupido Bandido," "El Paso del Canguro," "Juana Maria" and "El Colesterol; " his subsequent outings include 1996's La Sabrosura Continua, 1997's Con Amor y Sabor and 1998's A Gozar con Sabrosura. © Jason Ankeny /TiVo
