Gist the Essence was reared by Haitian immigrant parents who are also musically inclined which resulted in his acquired taste in music. Queens has and continues to have a strong influence by the hip-hop culture since the 80's and Gist is determined to continue this legacy.

His latest release "The Butterfly Effect: A Believer's Story" will give anyone chills.

Sounds range from emotional, mental, and spiritual spectrum's. "La La La Pt. 2" storms through with a message for change that lies within us to stay aware. "So Much More" leaves you with his "Live Life Feel Dope" motto. "Love you Back to Life" depicts pure love and wholeness which can be seen in the video shot by videographer Swayze McGrady. The Caribbean melodies on the track Dutty Boukgyal, sets the gritty words of determination cosigned by the sultry voice of Cocoa Sarai.
