Heribert Beissel is a German choral and orchestral conductor whose large repertoire extends from Baroque to early modern music. He attended the Cologne College of Music, studying conducting with Günter Wand and piano and composition with Frank Martin, taking violin as a secondary subject. Beginning his career primarily as an opera conductor in Bonn, Beissel also worked with the WDR Cologne as a chamber musician and accompanist. For 14 years, Beissel conducted the Hamburg Symphony and worked with the Hamburg Opera. Beissel founded the Chur Cologne Choir in Bonn, which offered a cappella concerts and performed larger works for choir and orchestra with the Chur Cologne Orchestra, later renamed the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn. Beissel has also conducted the Hamburg Symphony, the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra, the Halle State Philharmonic Orchestra, the State Youth Orchestra of Saxony-Anhalt, and the Brandenburg State Orchestra in Frankfurt.
