Born and raised in Nashville, singer
Hillary Scott is best known as one third of Grammy-winning country trio
Lady A.
The daughter of country musicians
Linda Davis and Lang Scott, she began pursuing her own career just after high school, working with singer/songwriter
Victoria Shaw and trying to secure her own record deal. After meeting future bandmates
Charles Kelley and
Dave Haywood in 2006, the three artists began a writing partnership that led to the formation of
Lady A later that year. After cutting their teeth at local clubs, the group secured a deal with Capitol Records in 2007 and over the next several years rose to international fame thanks to their heady mix of country, rock, and R&B. During their impressive run between 2010 and 2014, three of the band's albums reached number one on both the country and pop charts.
As 2015 wound to a close,
Lady A entered a hiatus during which
Scott announced her intentions to record a faith-based solo effort with her family. Working with country and bluegrass legend
Ricky Skaggs as producer,
Scott recruited both her parents and her younger sister, Rylee, to record a set of gospel songs on a project she claimed to hold close to her heart. The album,
Love Remains, was released in July 2016 and was credited to
Hillary Scott & the Scott Family. It debuted at number one on Billboard's Christian Albums chart and number two on the Top Country Albums chart. ~ Timothy Monger
