Under the name
Hoodboi, Roger Schami synthesizes post-disco R&B, house, and left-of-center pop into heady club music that translates to home listening. He has issued a handful of EPs since 2015, from
Palm Reader to Sahara, along with several singles during the same timespan.
Originally from El Paso and based in Los Angeles since the mid-2000s, Schami started out with TeamSupreme. He founded the collective and label and also designed their graphic identity. After a batch of edits and remixes (including Slick Shoota's "F Dat" for the Mad Decent label), he made his proper debut as
Hoodboi with the 2015 EP
Palm Reader, issued by Fool's Gold. This led to additional Fool's Gold singles and EPs, including 2018's
Breathing Room and 2019's Sahara, plus scattered collaborations and remixes. ~ Andy Kellman
