Jackie Lynn is a fictional persona of American singer/songwriter Haley Fohr, better known for her experimental indie folk project
Circuit des Yeux. Differing from that moniker's more introspective, spiritual work, the more playful, fantasy-driven releases Jackie Lynn (2016) and
Jacqueline (2020) fuse country, disco, and synth pop.
According to
Lynn's back story, she was born in Franklin, Tennessee, in 1990 and moved to Chicago just before her 20th birthday. She met a man referred to as Tom Strong, and they began a multi-million-dollar cocaine business. In 2016, Thrill Jockey released a self-titled
Jackie Lynn album with songs relating to the story. Featuring contributions from members of
Bitchin' Bajas and
Cave, the album departs from
Circuit des Yeux's typical work, with minimalist arrangements incorporating acoustic guitars, synthesizers, and drum machines, as well as more straightforward songwriting. The story continued with 2020's
Drag City-issued
Jacqueline, which added disco beats and string arrangements. ~ Paul Simpson
