Known to the world as Jhno, San Francisco-based John Eichenseer has worked as a DJ, a producer, an inventor of music software and a multi-fascinated collaborator since 1994. A trained pianist and a student of jazz, classical, and ethnic music, Jhno's reputation is built on the organic incorporation of diverse musical forms into electronic music and the development of music software. His first releases came out on his own Delicate Ear which was founded in 1995 and with that label he released his first three full-length albums: Understand, KWNO, and Membrane. Eventually Jhno caught the ear of San Francisco based indie NEWdOG, who rereleased KWNO and also issued a collaborative effort between Jhno and Chicago guitarist John Ridenour. Together Ridenour and Jhno operated under the auspices Spool and toured the West Coast together as a part of Ambient Brunch in 1999. In addition to his ongoing collaborations with Ridenour, Jhno's development of sound software has lead to work with such notables as Laurie Anderson and Thomas Dolby. His formidable understanding of computer generated and manipulated sound is the basis for his stunning solo work, which uses jazz and ethnic elements and truly blurs the boundaries between a variety of electronic music's sub-genres. Jhno's music has been released on Ninja Tune, Instinct Records, and Ultraviolet Records, he has done several remix projects, and has even dabbled in the indie rock world by collaborating with Minty Fresh Record's the Aluminum Group on their sophomore release, Plano. He resides in San Francisco where, in addition to developing sound software and performing live as both a DJ and a jazz pianist, he works with a jazz/electronic fusion group that he helped found, called Wavelord. ~ Nate Cavalieri
