Cincinnati, OH's
Leather was a heavy metal quartet named after singer Leather Leone, a longtime fixture of the city's rock scene thanks to her membership in local metal champions,
Chastain, as well as leadership role in a short-lived all-girl outfit named Malibu Barbie. Teamed up with guitarist
Michael Harris (ex-Tyrant,
Arch Rival, etc.), bassist David Harbar, drummer John Luke He'Bert (later with
King Diamond) in 1989, Leone recorded an album entitled
Shock Waves for the Roadracer label, under the supportive supervision of
David T. Chastain himself. And a competent, confident, and, most importantly, heavy first effort it was too, only not commercial enough to vault
Leather into anything resembling actual stardom or warrant a second album, apparently, since Leone soon resumed her regular frontwoman duties for
Chastain. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
