Lincoln Chase

Lincoln Chase

A composer and performer, Lincoln Chase is best-known for writing "Jim Dandy" and "Jim Dandy Got Married" for Lavern Baker and teaming with his wife, Shirley Ellis, in the '60s to pen a string of entertaining novelty tunes. Ellis/Chase numbers included "The Nitty Gritty," "The Name Game," and "The Clapping Song," with "Nitty Gritty" and "Name Game" both being Top Ten R&B hits, and "Name Game" crossing over into the Top Ten on the pop charts as well. Chase doubled as Ellis' manager also. He issued his own LP in the '70s, but it didn't generate much interest. ~ Ron Wynn
