Lisa Haley is a fourth-generation fiddler who has studied under masters of the "Cajun Way,"
Queen Ida, Joe Simien, and
Canray Fontenot. She is looking to bring Cajun/Zydeco music into the 21st century, with the traditional and original music that only
Lisa Haley & the Zydekats can make.
Haley's list of credits is extensive, having recorded with top groups like John Hyatt,
Toad the Wet Sprocket,
Dramarama, and
Zydeco Party Band, to name a few. She has also performed with
Randy Newman,
Lyle Lovett, and
Queen Ida.
She can be heard playing her fiddle all over the soundtrack of The Waterboy. She has been on the Tonight Show, Good Morning America, the Family Channel, and European TV Shows. The Zydekats include David Jackson on accordion & vocals. His fine playing has been heard on many artists' recordings, including those by
John Denver,
Andy Williams,
Hoyt Axton, and
Bruce Cockburn. He's also appeared on The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live.
Randy Mitchell, on guitar, slide, dobro, mandolin, and vocals, got his first guitar when he was four years old -- it was a Popeye handcrank model. He quickly graduated to the real thing, and went on to record with
Donna Summer, Michael Martin Murphy, and
Hank Ballard. He has also made appearances on The Tonight Show, Saturday Night Live, and Good Morning America.
Jim Hanson, on bass and vocals, has recorded with
Carlene Carter,
Bruce Springsteen,
Rosanne Cash, and Rodney Crowell. He has performed on The Tonight Show with Carlene Carter, and on the Grammy Awards with
Bruce Springsteen. Last but not least is
Michael Jochum on drums, percussion & washboard; his album credits include
Jackson Browne and
Boy Meets Girl. He can also be heard daily on numerous television shows, among them Beverly Hills 90210, Home Improvement, and The Muppet Show, as well as movie soundtracks (The Chase and Days of Thunder, among others). Releases include the the critically acclaimed Waiting for the Sky in 1999, King Cake in 2007, and Lisa Haley & the Zydecats in 2008. ~ Larry Belanger
