Luís Magalhães is a Portuguese pianist and a member of the piano duo TwoPianists with his wife,
Nina Schumann.
Magalhães started taking piano lessons when he was five, and gave his first concert at nine. He went on to study with Eduardo Rocha,
Pedro Burmester, José Alexandre Reis, and
Vladimir Viardo. He also participated in master classes with
Alicia de Larrocha,
Paul Badura-Skoda, and Helena Moreira de Sá e Costa. The winner of many competitions,
Magalhães launched an international career, giving performances across Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.
Magalhães and
Schumann met as graduate students at North Texas State University. They formed the TwoPianists label, where they have recorded works by
Bach,
Beethoven,
Mendelssohn,
Korngold, and
Rachmaninov.
